This piece represents the "Vermis Mysteriis" (The Worm's Mysteries), a mythical book appearing for the first time in Robert Block's tale The Shambler from the Stars and that was afterwards incorporated to the imaginary of the Cthulhu's Mythos by H.P. Lovecraft, being the one who gives it its Latin name. Later, other related authors would mention them on their stories, as did Stephen King in hist short story "Jerusalem's Lot", in 1978.
In the Lovecraftian universe, the De Vermis Mysteriis is a grimoire written by Ludwig Prinn, a Belgian crusader who lived between XV and XVI centuries, and who was condemned to death by being burnt at the stake. This book is divided in various chapters in which the esoteric knowledge about various entities, as well as the spells and rituals to invoke the, are collected.
